Violin teacher Mr Wright plays at Festival of Remembrance

Our talented peripatetic music teacher John Wright can be seen performing from the Royal Albert Hall with the Countess of Wessex’s String Orchestra at the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance on Saturday.

This 24-member string band, from the British Army’s Corp of Army Music, is the only independent full time string band in the British Armed Forces. Mr Wright used to play with this ensemble when he was in the Armed Forces, before he became a luthier and started teaching, so he regularly helps them out with high profile events.

In the year that marks the 75th anniversary of VE Day and VJ Day, as well as the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain and the 70th anniversary of the Korean War, the pre-recorded Festival of Remembrance pays tribute to the armed forces and remembers all victims of war and conflict through music, performance and reflection.  Saturday, BBC1, 9.10pm.
