Last Thursday evening, our U11 netball A team took part in the first round of the Newark Small Schools Netball Tournament. The girls came out positively in the first match against Bleasby but went a goal down early on; luckily some inspired play and great teamwork allowed Jemima to have a shot on goal which she took quickly. The game ended in a 1-1 draw.
Highfields were dominant in the second match against Farndon and came away with a 3-0 win with great goals from Martha and Alice. We squeezed in one final match and after a tussle between both teams, came out victorious against Bishop Alexander with the final scoreline 2-1 (goals from Ellie and Jemima).
All in all a fantastic evening of netball was enjoyed by every spectator. Alice, Poppy and Jemima all received player of the match at some point during the games. Erin showed some excellent tenacious defensive play and Jess and Amelie adapted quickly to all positions they were given and were instrumental in all games. A fantastic start to the tournament!
The second round is next Thursday with further matches in March and April – let’s hope this is the start of a high position in the final standings.
