We had a fantastic afternoon at Wellow this week with both sides turning in excellent performances
U11 girls hockey – played 3, won 1, drew 2
U11 boys rugby – played 3, won 3
Here are our match reports (written by the children).
On Wednesday the U11’s faced off against Wellow House School and the ‘Reds’ & ‘Blacks’ from St Peter & St Pauls. The boys were at it from the off, as Shahid snaked over the try line in our very first attack, and this set the tone for the rest of the afternoon. Some strong running and textbook tackling saw Highfields record comfortable victories in all 3 games.
Wellow 2 – 7 Highfields
Highfields 3 – 0 SPSP Blacks
Highfields 4 – 0 SPSP Reds
On Wednesday, our Under 11’s hockey team travelled to Wellow to play in a hockey tournament. The girls started their first match against Wellow with great attacking play and early goals from Kitty and Scarlett. Most of the play was our way for the whole game with a few great saves from Ria in goal. Jemima secured the victory with a third goal in the second half. Great start!
The second match, however, was not so easy. The team battled against a strong (and very tall!) Ranby side but we were so tenacious that they could not break through our formidable defences. The game ended in a 0 – 0 draw. Fittingly, we received praise from the other team for showing such grit and determination.
St. Peter & St Pauls gave us a thrilling final match with end-to-end play. Attempts from both teams and excellent defensive play meant that the match ended again in a 0 – 0 draw. Mrs McGhie and the parents who attended were delighted with the girls’ attitude and conduct throughout all of the matches. Well done girls!
