Monday 11th July 2016 saw Highfields School’s Speech Day at 2pm in the afternoon in the Church of St Mary Magdalene, Newark. Our outgoing Form 6 Leavers were given a heartfelt farewell with musical performances from band and orchestra as well as a number of piano solos and some great singing by choir, advanced choir and the whole school. This was both an opportunity to showcase Highfields’ considerable musical talent and also a chance to celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2016.
Our Guest of Honour was Brendan Reilly, who presented the Trophies and Awards. A double Olympian at the high jump, Brendan represented and captained GB at many world and European competitions over a ten year period. He gave the children and their guests some inspirational words of encouragement with his “Seven Secrets of Success” – never give up being one of them!
Headmaster Mr Thomson and Chair of Governors Mr Bicknell addressed the children, Head Boy and Head Girl offered votes of thanks and there was a book presentation by all of Form 6 to the rest of school. The retiring collection was in aid of Beaumond House.
Highfields wishes this year’s Leavers every success in their continuing education at the senior schools of their choice. Be valiant, aim high, achieve more. Always.
