Educational success

As a non-selective school we are extremely proud of our academic results.  Many of our pupils go on to achieve scholarships in music, sport, art, choral and academic at a number of leading senior independent schools, including Nottingham High School and Lincoln Minster.  Other places have been gained at selective senior independent schools including Nottingham Girls’ High School, Stamford Endowed Schools, Worksop College and Oakham School.

The grammar schools continue to remain a popular choice

  • in Grantham  – The King’s School for boys and Kesteven & Grantham Girls’ School for girls
  • in Sleaford – Carre’s School for boys and Kesteven & Sleaford High School Selective Academy for girls

Entry to the grammar schools, which are in Lincolnshire, is by 11+ examination.  Highfields has enjoyed a very high pass rate in the 11+ in recent years.

Under the national curriculum we chose to publish our SATs results, which other independent schools do not, and we are very proud of these.  Based on these results, for four out of five years we have received national recognition as a ‘Sunday Times Top 100 Independent Primary School.  One of our more recent SATs results can be viewed below

We now follow Cambridge Curriculum for maths, English and science so pupils in Forms 6 and 2 no longer sit SATs.

Beyond academic excellence 

It’s not just academic achievement which is celebrated at Highfields. Many if not all of our pupils take advantage of our excellent music tuition with most sitting ABRSM examinations.  Speech and Drama lessons are also very popular and we have recently enjoyed an outstanding set of results in LAMDA examinations for prose and verse (Summer 2018).

In the last set of ABRSM exams we had some super results.

  • Form 6 leavers:
    George  – pass Grade 1 Theory
    Harry – distinction Grade 1 Theory
    Jenson – distinction Grade 1 Theory
    Rafe – distinction Grade 1 Theory
  • Current Forms 5 and 6:
    Lauren – distinction Grade 1 Flute
    Tessa – distinction Grade 1 Piano

LAMDA students enjoyed similar success this summer.

  • Verse & Prose: Solo – 6 pass with merit, 2 pass with distinction.
  • Acting:  Solo grade 1 – 1 pass; Solo grade 2 – 1 pass with merit, 1 pass with distinction; Acting Grade 1 combined – 8 pass with merit, 2 pass with distinction.
