Our Prep Music Concert is one of the highlights of our calendar and this year’s performance was no exception. With pupils across the whole of Prep, from Forms 3 to 6, performing before a packed hall we enjoyed a musical treat.
Forms 3 and 4 opened the show on violins, followed by the Violin Group. Forms 3 and 4 have also mastered the ukulele with their ensemble providing a rousing rendition of Waltzing Matilda. Solo performances included piano, wind, string and harp as well as some super brass solos, class singing and pieces by our Choir and Advanced Choir.
Well done to all the children for rehearsing so hard and for their commitment to playing their instruments. Thank you to our Head of Music, Rowan Cozens, and to our helping teachers including Mrs Turner and Mrs Smith with the violin players, Mrs McGivern with Choir and Mrs Martin with stage management.
Thank you too to all our peripatetic instrumental teachers including Jane Olsen (piano), Peter Higgins (piano), Laura Gardiner (violin), Henry Mann (cello), Lisa Wright (woodwind and harp), Gary Wyatt (brass), Colin Reed (singing) and John Wright (percussion).
Visiting senior schools this evening (including Oakham, Stamford, Lincoln Minster, Trent College, Nottingham Girls and Nottingham High School) attended the concert as part of our senior schools information service to parents. A drinks reception was held prior to the concert and during the interval so that parents of Prep children could meet them informally and discuss their child’s options beyond Highfields. Many agreed that inviting the senior schools to our Music Concert was a great way to showcase our musical talent and combine the two events.
