Unique and specialist opportunities
The curriculum at Highfields Kindergarten is always delivered in an imaginative and thoughtful manner, making the best use of our outstanding outdoor environment. We have access to a unique, natural and well-resourced outdoor area that covers 14 acres of beautiful, mature woodland which looks out onto open fields.
Our outside area includes: a growing zone, dipping pond, hills and slopes to climb, a mud kitchen and a large purpose built sandpit along with use of many natural objects such as our numerous trees, plants and strategically placed logs to create a magical and stimulating outdoor environment. We make full use of this space by encouraging the children to adopt a free flow approach to play and learning, choosing if they wish to be inside or out, allowing them to take the lead with their play and make decisions that allow them to remain engaged in their play and learning.
Unique Specialist Teaching
Our Early Years offer is extended for each and every child through our carefully planned weekly routine that includes specialist sessions in:
Forest school sessions – Mrs Saunders, BA (Hons) QTS – Kindergarten Leader, Reception Teacher and Forest Schools Lead
Physical Education – outdoors and in our purpose built sports hall, run by Mr Lewis, BSc (Hons) PE & Sports Science, PGCE – Form 4 Teacher and Specialist Physical Education Teacher
Music and singing – Ms R Cozens, LRAM, LTCL, GRSM – Head of Music
My daughter loves coming to nursery. She especially enjoys the outdoor activities as part of Forest School.Parent, 2014
Links to Reception
Highfields Kindergarten can uniquely offer children and parents an excellent link to Reception in Main School. The Adventurers’ Room Manager works in partnership with Reception teacher to ensure the children moving on to Reception either at Highfields or another chosen primary school have the very best introduction to the next phase of their learning journey.
