Congratulations to these pupils, who are our School Councillors for 2016-17. Last week, they were elected by their form to represent them, during our monthly meetings. They were presented with their special badges and notebooks, by Mr Thomson, in assembly on Friday.
Prior to our first meeting on Wednesday, the representatives must seek the views of their class, so they can tell Mr Thomson, Miss Wilson and the rest of the School Council all about them. Shortly afterwards, they will receive the minutes from the meeting, so that they can use them to inform their peers about what was discussed and the outcome.
Two of our governors also receive a copy of the minutes each month, so the children can be assured that their ‘pupil voice’ is being respected and heard at the highest level. Our chef Mr Ling and the FFH are also extremely receptive to the views and ideas of the School Council; we are very grateful for their ongoing support.
In recent years, the School Council has helped to interview candidates for various jobs in school, including Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher. They have also conducted several surveys, gathering views on everything from clubs to discos and lunchtime meals.
We cannot wait to hear all of the children’s opinions and ideas for making Highfields School an even more exciting place in which to learn and grow.
