I am managing partner of a 360ha farm to the south of Newark. It is a mainly arable farm with a strong emphasis on environmental stewardship. I am also Director of the National Association of Drainage Authorities (ADA) and former Chairman of Trent Valley Drainage Board. I qualified as a rural Chartered Surveyor after reading Land Economy at Cambridge University, working for Carter Jonas. Before returning to the family farm in 2000, I had a couple of years in the Agricultural Economics Unit at Cambridge University, working mainly on projects for the then Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries & Food. I have a long-standing relationship with Highfields, being a pupil in the 1970s, following in my father’s footsteps and my two boys were also at the school with the youngest leaving in 2017.

Mr Richard South
Board Member since 2019
Chair of the Building sub-committee, Member of the Finance, Marketing and Health & Safety Committee
I am the owner and Managing Director of South Electrical Ltd. The business was incorporated in 2003 and employs 120 full time staff, 35 of whom are apprentices. More recently we established a fleet management company to maintain and manage our vehicles, known as RS-Remarketing. I have over 20 years of experience in the construction industry working on large scale projects for FTSE100 companies as well as managing my own residential and commercial property portfolio. I have a continued passion for rugby and since the late 1990’s have played for East Retford Rugby Union FC. I have captained the teams and, more recently, helped run the club acting as secretary and then Clubhouse Development Chairman, hoping to finally achieve our goal of building a new clubhouse. Since my children started playing tennis several years ago at Highfields, they became involved with Caunton Lawn Tennis Club. We joined the club as a family and I have developed a new found love for the sport and now captain the one of the many teams they have available. Both my daughters attend Highfields and benefit greatly from the wonderful environment and enrichment opportunities available. The culture that has been created at the school provides incredible pedagogy. I am honoured to serve as a Governor of the school, and hopefully the school is able to benefit from my expertise, and as a parent, I am keen to ensure my children, as well as those around them, benefit from the Highfields experience.

I qualified as a Doctor from St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School (Barts) in 1982 and after 9 years of Hospital Medicine was lucky enough to be offered a GP Partnership at the Fountain Medical Centre in Newark where I spent 27 very happy years working full time, the last 8 years of which were as Senior Partner. I sat on the Governing Body of Newark and Sherwood CCG and was the Named (Safeguarding) Doctor for Mid Notts CCGs as well as the Clinical Lead for both Children & Young People (CYP) and for Maternity & Neonatal services sitting on the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Local Maternity & Neonatal Transformation System (LMNS) Board and The CYP Mental Health Executive. I was also a medical School GP Tutor. I retired from General practice in October 2018 continuing with my CCG work until Sept 2020. In December 2020 I returned to full time clinical work to help with the National Vaccination Programme as a GP Lead at Kings Mill Hospital and Newark Vaccination Centres and as GP Clinical Lead for The Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Roving Vaccination Team (Care Homes, Housebound, Learning Disabilities, Roving Bus). I continue in these roles to date. A total of 13 Mumby’s have been successfully and happily educated at Highfields School including my husband and our 3 children. I have maintained my close association with the school by serving as a Governor for 12 years until 2012. I was delighted to be invited back to the Board in 2019 to offer support in particular around the school’s safeguarding agenda.

I am a qualified Accountant who has worked for a number of local accountancy firms before being appointed a Partner of TC East Midlands in 2020. This has aided bringing my finance expertise to the Governing body. I have a long association with Highfields having helped out at school whilst doing my A Levels and my daughter has attended the nursery for the past 2 years. This has helped me experience Highfields School as a parent which has been an eye opener in how well the nursery and school is run.
