Form 5 Yorkshire Residential day two – Dalby Forest, Tuesday 12th May 2015

photo (30)On day two of their week-long residential, Form 5 visited Dalby Forest for shelter building and orienteering.  Dalby Forest is situated on the southern slopes of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, which is stunningly beautiful.  The southern part of the forest is divided by a number of valleys creating a “Rigg and Dale” landscape whilst to the north the forest sits on the upland plateau.

The children split into teams of four to source whatever they could find to build a shelter with a (waterproof!) roof and floor, navigating their way around the forest with the use of a compass.   The shelters were particularly impressive, however not all were quite up to passing the watering can challenge – but at least it was sunny enough to dry off!   Here is Mr Lewis about to test the waterproofing of the roofs…
