The last day of Form 5’s residential in Yorkshire and they visited Eden Camp, a Modern History Theme Museum outside Malton. The museum occupies a former Second World War prisoner of war camp of 33 huts. After the prisoners left, the camp was used for storage and eventually abandoned. In the 1980s, three Italian ex-PoWs went to look round the site and persuaded the owner to preserve the site and set it up as a museum. It took a number of years to restore the huts, one by one, to display the political and military events that marked WW2. Now Eden Camp is an award winning attraction which has been visited by many serving Forces as well as former inmates and even royalty. Form 5 really were walking through history today.
