Food glorious food
At Highfields we are very proud of our reputation for high quality food and catering, which is produced with love and pride by our wonderful catering team. Everything we serve is home-cooked on site and prepared from scratch, and always sourced from local suppliers. We have longstanding connections with Newark-based Doncasters butchers, Davisons bakery and Banks Fruit and Vegetables.
Ms Jo Andrews our talented chef was trained by Mr Peter Ling, our much loved and highly esteemed previous school chef and retired RAF Chef Manager who had a glittering military career catering for a wealth of Heads of State and military dignatories including HRH the Queen and the Royal Family.
Ms Andrews is ably assisted by Ms Yi-Wen Hsieh and Mrs Jenna Freear.
Seasonal menu for developing appetites
The catering team are passionate about planning and delivering carefully balanced, seasonal menus taking into account children’s nutritional needs and their diverse palates. They produce beautifully presented foods to both delight and develop children’s appetites for new food experiences. We are very proud that our pupils are such sophisticated and discerning eaters.
From breakfast through to lunch then teas and snacks, there is always a wide selection on offer including a fresh salad bar, jacket potatoes, home made soups and a daily hot vegetarian dish – every effort is made to provide something for everyone. We take all dietary requirements very seriously and always do our best to fulfil all of our pupils’ needs, including those with religious or allergy-based preferences.
Mealtimes are calm and sociable times of the school day when manners are expected and children supported to develop mealtime etiquette. For special occasions we create more formal dining experiences for the children, having ‘toasts’ and speeches, and in the summer months, sporting or afternoon teas are sometimes eaten outside in our beautiful grounds as a picnic.
Our Highfields holistic approach to nurturing your child certainly starts from within!
