Dyslexia Day at Nottingham Girls’ High School – Tuesday 11th November 2014

Rocket making and Gunpowder Plots were on the agenda today at Nottingham Girls’ High School as part of the school’s continuing outreach programme looking at dyslexia.  The day was attended by some Form 6 pupils and its aim was to improve organisational skills to ease the transition to senior school.

Arranged in groups of ten with other visiting primary schools, our Form 6 pupils were given sessions in poetry and drama, physics, IT, maths and art.  The first session involved learning the words to “Remember remember the 5th of November…” by acting out each line and creating a visual picture of the poem.  But the highlight of the day was surely the rocket building led by the head of physics.  So efficient were our rockets that one actually landed on a roof outside and could not be recovered!  Its creator shall remain nameless!

This was a day of great fun and the children really enjoyed looking around Notts Girls and seeing what a senior school looks like on a normal day.
