Cross Country Meet 2018

Phew! what an amazing Highfields Cross Country Meet we had on Thursday 22nd November.  I am reliably informed this is actually the 20th year the event has been running (excuse the pun). It was certainly fitting that our amazing U9 teams sparkled to produce an incredible and ultimately victorious performance. Having finally had time to sit down and sieve through the race cards, special mentions must go to the 4 highest places finishers who secured the achievement:

U9 Girls

Emily 2nd

Isabelle 7th

Ella

Bronte

U9 Boys

Arthur

Brodie

Jack

Ben

Amazing feat but wholly supported by an outstanding team effort from their peers who pushed and encouraged all the way round.

As always with cross country and aside from the individual glory, each competitor faces their own challenges and runs their own race…it was fantastic to see the effort and endeavour displayed throughout the afternoon by all Highfields pupils. This event is a culmination of weeks of hard work in PE and XC club…we are proud of each and every one of you!

Special mentions must also go to Alfie and Ria who spoke brilliantly when addressing our guests before the final presentations, Form 6 for being great in their ambassadorial role meeting and greeting our visitors. The hardcore of helpers who stayed behind to clear the course. And finally Henry N who stopped assisted a faller from another school.  Such compassion is a rare thing.

A last few thank yous…

To our team of volunteers; race marshalls and those helping to serve refreshments, helping the event to run as smoothly as possible.

The Rose family for their generous support of our fantastic race medals.

And to each and everyone who braved the cold to line the sidelines and cheer every stride.

Mr Lewis
