Cricket and Rounders U8 and U9 v Wellow (A)

A busy start to the week saw U9 and U8 Cricket and Rounders visit Wellow for their first outings of the summer. Over in the cricket the U8’s won the toss and elected to bowl. Sharp fielding kept scoring difficult for the hosts, who never really got going with the bat. In contrast, Kieran and Felix set the tone both scoring early boundaries and this was maintained through the innings as Highfields cruised to victory. Well done, chaps.

The U9’s were in a slightly more bruising encounter- and that was just the warm up! Arthur is okay now after a visit to A&E to glue his forehead! The game itself was played in great spirit as the boys really stepped up playing a man light. Kyle lead the bowling attack with some fine deliveries and James and George proved ruthless with the bat. Final result Highfields 248 – Wellow 226.

Over in the rounders, after a quick ‘friendly’ game as a refresher, we started the main match off strongly with some good batting and many children scoring rounders and half-rounders: Henna, Emily, Eloise and Amy to name a few. This left us with 6 ½ rounders to defend. Wellow also started strongly, but some excellent fielding from Highfields meant Wellow scored 6 in total. A fantastic first game of the season with a full team effort! Well done girls.
