Remote learning during Covid-19 lockdown

Since 23rd March 2020, when schools first had to close due to lockdown, we started working remotely.  Class teachers guided our pupils with a full programme of timetabled online learning using home-study packs through Class Dojo and other remote tools including Zoom and Google Classroom.

Home-study support and additional materials were and continue to be available from the help desk at [email protected]

Highfields has remained fully open throughout all lockdowns for children of critical workers. We continued to provide hot meals and wraparound care throughout this period.

Safe re-opening after lockdown

As a school we have made many practical changes to ensure we could reopen after each lockdown safely and effectively. We are proud to share that we ensured we re-opened to ALL year groups in June 2020 to allow all pupils to be on site before the long summer break. After the recent lockdown we reopened to a largely ‘normal’ timetable (with a few limitations on extra-curricular activities to comply with current restrictions) and wraparound care for all pupils.

As well as observing the “Hands – Face – Space” rule (with staff wearing face coverings in school except when teaching in their classroom bubbles), all staff and pupils also carry out LFTs (Lateral Flow Tests) twice a week, recording these results both with school and with the government’s Track and Trace scheme.

Lunchtime Staff and our Domestic Team all wear PPE including aprons, gloves and face shields and effective ventilation is a priority in all areas of our buildings. Daily temperature checks take place and our pupils operate in ‘bubbles’ to ensure provision feels as ‘normal’ as possible for our children.

By adhering to the guidance and the following the daily updates from the DfE, we are doing everything recommended to keep our school open and operating safely.
