Collingham Show – Saturday 20th September 2014

The Highfields tent was full of action at this year’s Collingham Ploughing Match and Show!  Not only did we have our special world record breaking challenges – sand shifting, Mr Potato Head and bead sorting – with the results recorded on our Top Gear style leader board, we also hosted a treasure trail around the Show which was devised entirely by Jessica Sheldon.  The trail led to a secret code which, once decoded, revealed the name of a surprise in the skies in the afternoon.  It came as little surprise that the answer was LANCASTER…

Not one but two Lancaster planes provided an amazing flypast – the only remaining two airworthy Lancs in the world!  One was the visiting Lanc from Canada which would be returning to Canada on Monday.  As if that wasn’t exciting enough, our dear friend and former Highfields teacher Sqn Ldr George “Johnny” Johnson DFM was guest of honour and came all the way from Bristol to witness this remarkable flypast.  Johnny was very well looked after in the President’s tent.

Many thanks to Mr and Mrs Sheldon (junior and senior) for another wonderful Show!
