On Wednesday 22nd January, our Under 9 Netball A team played in a festival at St Hugh’s School, Woodhall Spa. Although this was their first competitive match of the season, all girls came onto the court with huge confidence and a tenacious attitude, particularly Ella who stood out in match one versus St Hugh’s first team. After having most of the possession for the match, with some excellent attacking play between Ella, Isabelle and India, the final score ended as a 1-1 draw.
We entered our second match against Ranby with the same confidence, even though we had just witnessed them beating another team. Ella once again was unfailing in her tenacity to thwart the other teams attempts at shooting and Annie was great at getting into space when she needed to. In the end, the match ended in a 0-0 draw – a great result against such a strong team.
In our final match of the round robin, the girls finally managed to secure a win with two great goals from Ruby being supported well by an enthusiastic Katherine and a speedy Zara. This result left us third in our group with a playoff to come versus Grantham Prep.
Once again, we were dominant with possession in this game but could only manage a 0-0 draw in the end.
The U9 boys also made their opening bow of the season at the St Hugh’s Festival. The boys faced off against the hosts, St Hugh’s A+B, St Georges, St Martins and Grantham Prep. Although, no official scores were kept, the boys came away undefeated, with victories in all but one of their games. A promising start to the season, well done, chaps!
