Aims

Be Valiant, Aim High, Achieve More

Highfields is an independent, co-educational, non-selective day school for children aged 2-11 years, based in the historic market town of Newark.  It is a family school with strong values and traditions which have served the School well in the past and will continue to serve future generations of Highfields children equally well in the future.

Academic excellence

The School’s aim is that the children in our care should achieve the highest possible academic standards in relation to their age and ability.  We believe we achieve this at Highfields through a number of ways, in particular:

  • We have small class sizes to ensure each child receives the attention they may need and deserve.
  • We have a team of highly experienced teachers with a number of specialist disciplines.
  • We monitor and assess your child’s progress closely with you.
  • We believe strongly in working together with our families.
  • We have specialist learning expertise where children can receive dedicated individual or group support to enhance their learning.

Our academic results show that children across all abilities who come to Highfields consistently achieve significantly above the national average.

We provide an environment where the children experience a sense of pride and fulfilment that comes from working to their full potential.  We believe we give our children an education which equips them with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed.

Enhanced curriculum

At Highfields we teach not just the best of the National Curriculum but we also deliver an enhanced and wider curriculum which draws upon our teaching team’s expertise.  We have a number of specialist teachers available to all children which we believe encourages the children to develop different skills across a broad range of disciplines.

In particular, all children across the whole school receive specialist teaching in Music, PE and Games.  The Junior children also benefit from subject teaching in ICT and Art and, within Forms 5 and 6, English and Maths.

Traditional family values

Manners and appearance are important to us here at Highfields.  We operate a high level of pastoral care and seek to ensure the children are polite, confident and well rounded.  We develop strong foundations for our children’s future development, not just academically but socially and emotionally too, so that they will all go on to enjoy and lead a happy and fulfilling life as they grow up.
